About Dr. Joey Mesquita

Dr. Joseph Mesquita is a Doctor of Acupuncture and New York State licensed acupuncturist. He earned his Doctorate degree in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Health and Science and trained in Psychological First Aid through Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Mesquita often works alongside multi-disciplinary healthcare providers which gives him an integrative medicine approach to patient care.

Prior to completing his Doctorate, Dr. Mesquita received his Bachelors of Arts degree from New York University in Anthropology and his Masters of Science degree in Acupuncture from Tri-State College of Acupuncture. At Tri-State College, he trained in three different styles of the medicine including: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture Physical Medicine (including APM trigger point needling techniques sometimes referred to as “dry needling”), and Kiiko Matsumoto Japanese Acupuncture. Dr. Mesquita is experienced working with utilizing trigger point therapy for a range of orthopedic and chronic pain conditions.

Additionally, Dr. Joey is certified in Medical Cannabis for Healthcare Professionals from Pacific College. This is the first college-level, accredited medical cannabis certificate in the nation. With this, he aims to educate both patients and their medical doctors on the medical benefits of cannabis for a wide variety of conditions while limiting the need for the use of harmful opioid pharmaceuticals. 

Dr. Mesquita is passionate about making Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine accessible to the greater NYC population and often volunteers giving free auricular acupuncture to the NYC community. Through the integration of the eastern classics coupled with western biomedical medicine, he aims to create an individualized patient-centered approach to healthcare and places emphasis on the importance of preventative medicine to improve one’s long-term quality of life. He believes in treating the root cause of disease and guiding patients through lifestyle choices to make the greatest impact on their health.

Specialties include: sports medicine, trigger point “dry needling”, chronic and acute pain management, psycho-emotional conditions and medical cannabis.
